Abstract

This article analyzes the place of the educator in the context of Rousseaunian pedagogy and has as object of investigation the work Emile: or On Education (1762). The proposed objectives are the characterization of natural pedagogy and the characterization of the role of the governing educator in the process of moral and political formation of the individual. The hermeneutics applied to bibliographic studies was adopted as a research method, which in addition to the aforementioned work, was also based on books by commentators of the philosopher Rousseau. As results of the discussion, it was observed that the Genevan thinker proposed an innovative pedagogy for his time, to the extent that it revolutionizes the relationship between educator and student and between education and society, these bonds are evidenced in our analyses. Inaugurator of the so-called natural pedagogy, the philosopher finds a rapprochement between education and the natural condition of freedom of the student and the moral and political formation for life in democratic society, mediated by the governing educator.
