Characterization of mothers and caregivers of newborns with congenital malformation

Objective: to analyze the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of mothers and caregivers of newborns with congenital malformations during prenatal care. Method: This is a quantitative, cross-sectional and descriptive study that gathered data among the universe of the Brazilian population that has some digital equipment with internet access, configuring a non-probabilistic sample of the type for convenience. Data collection took place between August and September 2018 using two questionnaires: sociodemographic and semi-structured. Results: There was a predominance of female mothers / caregivers, who work, of the race / color White, give Catholic religion, with family income above 2 minimum wages. They performed prenatal care in public hospitals, with more than 5 consultations prefer medical assistance in consultations, there was also a predominance of malformation diagnosis when within 28 days of life, the most frequent congenital heart disease was interventricular communication and the treatment adopted was the surgical procedure, and most newborns do not have another malformation. Conclusion: it was observed that even though the appearance of heart diseases are not linked to sociodemographic or clinical variables, they are directly linked to the way of dealing with the disease.
