About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The Revista de Enfermagem da UFPI (REUFPI) is an online journal edited by the Graduate Nursing Program/Department of Nursing at the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI). Its first edition was published in 2012. Currently rated as Qualis B1 (2017/2020), REUFPI has been among the 50 most cited journals in Latin America since 2019, according to the Ranking Citación Cuiden. The journal uses the Digital Object Identifier (DOI®) and aims to promote the dissemination of scientific knowledge and professional nursing practice, as well as contributions from other health-related areas, through the publication of empirical and theoretical manuscripts with a focus on international dialogue.

Since 2020, REUFPI has adopted a rolling pass system and accepts manuscripts in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. It publishes original research, review articles, experience reports, reflective essays, and letters to the editor, provided they meet the journal's publication guidelines.

Manuscripts published in preprint repositories are eligible for submission. The journal follows a Double-Blind Review evaluation system, ensuring anonymity of both authors and reviewers. REUFPI adheres to an open-access policy, offering free and immediate access to its content, supporting the principle that making scientific knowledge freely available enhances global knowledge democratization.

Committed to ethical principles, REUFPI follows the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (http://publicationethics.org/). Original research conducted in Brazil must comply with the guidelines of Resolution No. 466 of December 12, 2012, issued by the National Research Ethics Commission (CONEP).

REUFPI is also dedicated to ethical and scientific integrity, condemning plagiarism. All manuscripts submitted to the journal are screened using anti-plagiarism software.

The abbreviation Rev Enferm UFPI is recommended for citation purposes.

Peer Review Process

Manuscripts submitted to REUFPI undergo the following evaluation stages:

  1. First Stage: The editorial team evaluates the manuscript's compliance with the journal's guidelines, scope, and ethical considerations. Based on this review, the manuscript may:

    • Be returned to the authors for adjustments to guidelines, metadata completion, or submission of supplementary documents;
    • Proceed to the next stage, where the Editor-in-Chief assigns an Associate Editor;
    • Be rejected if it does not fit REUFPI's scope (decision timeframe: up to 40 days).
  2. Second Stage: The Associate Editor assigns the manuscript to ad hoc reviewers. REUFPI employs a double-blind peer review process to maintain the anonymity of both authors and reviewers. Reviewers provide detailed evaluations based on REUFPI's standards, including content, originality, innovation, methodological rigor, and contributions to professional practice. If reviewers' opinions differ, the manuscript may be sent to a third ad hoc reviewer.

Editorial Decisions:

  • Immediate Rejection: The manuscript does not align with REUFPI's scope, lacks scientific relevance, or fails to advance nursing knowledge.
  • Major Revisions: The manuscript holds promise but requires substantial changes. Authors must address reviewers' and editors' requests and resubmit the revised version within 20 days. If not submitted within this timeframe, the manuscript will be archived.
  • Minor Revisions: The manuscript is well-structured and relevant but needs minor adjustments. Authors must submit the revised version within 7 days. Failure to meet this deadline will result in archiving.
  • Rejection: Following peer review, reviewers recommend rejection due to substantial reformulation needs or limitations in originality.
  • Acceptance: The manuscript is deemed publishable based on its relevance to nursing and related fields.

Authors are notified of the decision through the OJS/SEER system and via email. The published manuscript will identify the Associate Editor involved in the review process.
