Abstract

Objective: To reflect on the historical trajectory of the educational system of higher education in nursing and its contribution to nursing practice. Method: Reflective study based on national and international literature related to the curricular changes of the higher education system and how it contributed to the performance of nursing practice, from 1950 to 2018. Results and Discussions: Changes in the educational system for the improvement of nursing make it possible to understand the possibilities for technical-scientific advancement in professional practice for society. Final considerations: Reflecting and preserving the historical memory of teaching processes and nursing practice contributes to understanding the role of nursing in society and promotes advances in the acquisition of specialized technical-scientific knowledge and the implementation of new intervention strategies and instruments.
