Abstract

The paper aims to raise some critical notes on the incidence of thought economist Amartya Sen in social policies. This is not a farfetched analysis of all of his work, but the critique of liberal tendencies and how your proposition, in “Development as Freedom”, has been incorporated, in particular, policies for children and adolescents. The text is divided into three parts, the first of which includes considerations and criticisms of Development as Freedom. In the second, trends in social policies and the traces of Amartya Sem's thinking in social policies are highlighted. And in the concluding part, there is an estrangement from liberal social logic and, without eliminating the points considered positive in thinking about human development, it is understood that, no matter how advanced the legislations are, without criticism, political mobilization and social struggles, we will not have a horizon of societal transformations.
