Abstract

The present article has as a general objective to approach the historical results of the Brazilian municipal elections in 2020, regarding the great number of elected transvestite and transsexual candidates, and their impacts for the LGBTI + movement, within the aspect of representative democracy. The research is divided into two parts, aiming to: contextualize the candidacies of transvestites and transsexuals in the 2020’s municipal elections and their impacts on Brazilian representative democracy. Thus, seeking to answer the question "What are the positive impacts of transvestite and transsexual expressiveness on the results of the 2020’s municipal elections?", the hypothesis of the article is that the increasingly comprehensive election of members of the transvestite and transsexual community, in the Brazilian democracy, expresses a greater participation, demand and need for representation of this class in the political sphere. Therefore, the article has as a qualitative methodology, using recent news about the 2020’s municipal elections, factual data about the studied class, in addition to researches by theorists who study representative democracy and political plurality.
