THE MATERIALIZATION OF BODIES FOR JUDITH BUTLER: THE PARADIGM OF GLOBALIZATION

Abstract

The following work aims to portray the materialization of bodies in Judith Butler's conception, from the influence of Michael Foucault and how this happens contemporaneously. the text Bodies that matter – the discursive limits of sex portrays the whole movement around the materialization of the body through Butler's thought, and the power relations historically perpetuated through restrictive and normalizing discourses about bodies. It will also be discussed how the philosophical tradition influenced this process. We will see how this all reflects on the materialization of bodies today from a globalized scenario, since there has always been, throughout history, a movement of abstraction from the real world, in which it was forgotten to think from the social experiences of the subjects themselves, taking into account given that the entire structural body of philosophy was developed on the European continent, where the authors had a clear definition of subjectivity and the individual, with the white man, with good physical build, tall and with green eyes, the standard that was maintained throughout tradition. Women, black people, LGBT+ and disabled people deviated from this standard established at the time, thus, they were invisible to reflection and were placed as abject. It becomes important to think about the materialization process from new perspectives, such as globalization, for example. These are some factors that reflect and will reflect in the process of materialization of bodies and in the construction of subjectivities today, as well as in the future.
