Journal History:
The INFORME ECONÔMICO (UFPI) is a significant part of the history of the Department of Economics (DECON) and the Center for Human Sciences and Letters (CCHL) at the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI). Its first issue was published in 1997, under the leadership of Professor Francisco José Santos as Editor-in-Chief. From its inception, the journal benefited from the dedication of Enoisa Pinheiro dos Santos Veras, who served until her retirement as an Economist at DECON. Starting in 2008, Professor Solimar Oliveira Lima spearheaded the journal's activities, officially assuming the role of Editor-in-Chief in 2013 alongside Enoisa Veras as Assistant Editor.
In addition to the dedication of those who led the journal’s editions, the faculty of DECON and CCHL provided fundamental contributions. Notably, Professors Samuel Costa Filho, Luiz Carlos Rodrigues Cruz (Puskas), Maria do Socorro Lira Monteiro (in memoriam), William Jorge Bandeira, and Edson José de Castro Lima stood out. Important contributions also came from other institutions, including international ones, which encouraged the expansion of the editorial team.
Gradually, the journal became a reference within UFPI by adopting an impartial, democratic, and multidisciplinary stance. Initially published in print with quarterly issues, it later adopted a semiannual publication schedule, maintaining this format until its print edition was discontinued in 2017. The journal accepted a wide variety of textual formats and contributions from different segments of the academic community, publishing newsletters, reviews, debates, and technical-scientific articles. Throughout its history, 38 issues were published, dedicated to science, opinion, and debate. The journal fulfilled its mission of disseminating knowledge and expanding dialogue on economics and society.
At present, the journal is undergoing a process of restructuring, looking toward a new horizon while remaining aligned with the rich legacy of its past. It is implementing significant reforms as it inaugurates its digital phase, expanding its capacity for scientific dissemination. Thus, it will exercise its full potential, combining science with qualified criticism and high-level academic debate.
