Jan Patočka’s appropriation of Edmund Husserl and Martin Heidegger’s phenomenology

Abstract

The article aims to make an incursion into the main works of the Czech philosopher Jan Patočka more directly related to the foundations of phenomenology, namely: Introduction to phenomenology and The movement of human existence. Considering that in the reflections gathered in these two publications – which in large part are directly derived from courses and conferences given by the author – we can find an interpretative and appropriating confrontation of the two main masters and founders of phenomenological philosophy during the first decades of the 20^th century, our objective is to select, translate and present the concepts of Edmund Husserl and Martin Heidegger. Bearing this in mind, our proposal is structured as follows: Introduction; 1. How Patočka apprehends and understands the beginning of phenomenology in Edmund Husserl; 2. The continuity and innovations of phenomenology in Martin Heidegger according to Patočka; Final considerations.
