The study examines the theories of Adam Smith and Thorstein Veblen, focusing on how they interpret the pursuit of social approval as a central element of human nature. The analysis compares their perspectives on luxury consumption as a social distinction marker and integrates the concept of education as a luxury good. Bourdieu's notion of cultural capital and class delineation is incorporated into the analysis for greater theoretical support on how education can be treated as a luxury good. The article concludes by emphasizing that education, besides being a tool for personal development, acts as a symbol of social status. Education is seen as beneficial to society, not only for the social validation it provides, but also for its positive economic and social externalities.
