Abstract

The uncontrolled growth of the urban environment contributes, among others, to the appearance of failures in the public sanitation systems, such as water supply, urban drainage, and the collection and correct disposal of solid waste. These failures associated with people's habits provide a favorable environment for the emergence of viral diseases such as Dengue, transmitted by the hematophagous vertebrate host, the Aedes aegypti mosquito, a public health problem in our country. The use of geoprocessing in environmental analysis makes it possible to cross social indicators and other diseases to assist public decision-making in      implementing health and social development policies. Therefore, this study aimed to carry out the mapping of Dengue cases in the east of Teresina, using data on building infestation by Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae and the average number of breeding sites per property in the period from 2015 to 2016. Data processing was performed using QGIS 2.18.4 software, with data files in shapefile format. Regarding the survey results, it was observed that most neighborhoods (96.6%) presented a percentage considered to be tolerable. Furthermore, only one neighborhood was included in the alert percentage (1.0 – 3.9), corresponding to 3.4% of the neighborhoods in the studied area.
