Abstract

The municipality of Floriano, Piauí, has a large exposure of sedimentary rocks related to the Parnaíba Basin, containing records of ancient faunas. Among the geological units, the Pastos Bons Formation stands out, which corresponds to a sedimentation cycle that comprises the sequence of lakes on the east bank of the basin, of Mesojurassic-Neojurassic age, with the registration of the fish Quasimodichthys piauhyensis. In this work, a new specimen of Q. piauhyensis from a outcrop located in the region of the Taboquinha community, 16 km northeast of the Floriano headquarters will be analyzed. The specimen is deposited in the scientific collection of the Geosciences and Paleonotology laboratory under the number LGP-0909, it has approximately 514 mm of standard length. The material referred to is of great importance, as it expands the records of this species in Piauí and highlights the importance of new fieldwork expeditions in the municipality of Floriano, PI.
