Abstract

The abiotic elements of nature in geological, geomorphological, hydrological aspects and their interrelationships constitute geodiversity, whose human exploration has given rise to the development of Geoconservation, in order to promote its valorization and consequent conservation. However, for Geoconservation to materialize, the identification and characterization of the geodiversity of the place is the starting point. This work aims to present the geodiversity elements of the Piauí coast and its characteristics, considering the geoconservation process, having been developed through bibliographical research, from the studies of Baptista (2010), Pfaltzgraff, Torres and Brandão (2010), Silva and Baptista (2014), Silva, Baptista and Moura (2014, 2015), Baptista, Moura and Silva (2016), Lopes (2017), Silva, Baptista and Lima (2018), Silva (2019), Baptista, Moura and Silva (2019), Silva, Lima and Baptista (2020) and Baptista e Lima (2020). Thus, Piauí’s coastal geodiversity is composed of features such as rock formations and outcrops, beaches, plains, dune fields, delta, estuary, rivers, streams, and lakes, among others, which constitute geodiverse attributes with geotouristic and geoeducational potential, and, in the face of intense and expressive occupation and exploration of this environment and space, it is appropriate for the development of Geoconservation, as the analyzed researches attest.
