“E NINGUÉM VAI TIRAR A LIBRAS DE MIM”: UMA ANÁLISE DE POEMA DE AUTORIA SURDA

Abstract

This article aims to analyze how linguistic prejudice is portrayed in the poem "The System" by deaf performer Edvaldo Santos. It aims to reflect on aspects of the social reality of deaf people. The poem allows readers, whether deaf or hearing, to discuss the problems inherent in social issues that permeate this reality, such as prejudice, discrimination, violence, and other topics. We engage with the concepts of erasure and heterotopia, discussed by Derrida (1973) and Foucault (1967), respectively. These concepts encompass different aspects of the spatial sphere in the literary field, including its symbolic composition, the relationships it establishes with culture and society, its affective dimension, projections of meaning, and discursive formations. Methodologically, the research was constructed based on the analysis of a poem signed and disseminated by the author through electronic media, such as a video on YouTube and Instagram. Interpretation into Portuguese was provided using subtitles within the video itself. The article then addresses the importance of understanding Edvaldo Santos' poem, considering its fundamental role in promoting sign language and deaf identity. Furthermore, his work contributes to expanding the debate on deaf literature and empowering deaf individuals in the fight for respect for their culture.
