The aim of this article is to discuss the "temporality of exception" concept. From the reading of Origins of Totalitarianism we noticed the emergence of a petrified temporality in the concentration camps. Even with the end of the Nazi regime the totalitarian elements have not disappeared in our democratic society. They also persist as a temporality of exception, which involves some process of dehumanization that disconnects past, present and future, making the experience of freedom impossible. In current days, the exception remains for millions of people living in extreme poverty and incarcerated, in a desert or dull temporality that affect their active and spiritual life activities. Considering this, based on Hannah Arendt's thought, and also with the support of other authors, we will reflect on the relationship between temporality, the human condition, and activity.
