Abstract

The municipality of Pedro II, 195 km from Teresina, Northeast of the state of Piauí, is located in the foothills of the Matões hills, a region with high water production through emerging mechanisms, forming the sources of the Corrente, Matos, Caldeirão, Piracuruca, Capivara and Parafuso rivers, providing quality water for homes, farms, little farms and villages, in the semi-arid region of Piauí. This study diagnosed the environmental impacts found in the sources of the Caldeirão River. The field expeditions were preceded by the acquisition and treatment of satellite images and bibliographic review. The diagnosis was done from in loco observations, with 84 field points being georeferenced, 12 of them, sources. As a result, were characterized the physical, biotic and socioeconomic environments directly related to the sources and their respective permanent preservation areas, with 14 activities responsible for environmental impacts identified. The information allowed the proposition of a project for the recovery and environmental preservation of the sources, a legacy for future generations.
