Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the influence of the human rights regime on the international community and how states use it in order to reach geopolitical, and economical purposes. Indeed, this analysis adopts the perspective and point of view of the Global South nations and it seeks to comprehend the subsumption of human rights norms, by making a parallel between Liberal and Realist theories, using the latter as the interpretative focus. It is also analyzed the concept of humanitarian intervention and the how periphery countries understand it. This research is founded on international law and international relations literature, as well as on historical aspects, in order to contemplate the international politics practice.
