The search for valid inferences is one of the biggest challenges of the social sciences. The purpose of this article is to introduce the concept of endogeneity and the problems related to causal explanations. Therefore, endogeneity is presented as the expression of the existence of at least one of these three problems: i) errors in variables; ii) omitted variables, and, iii) reverse causality. In addition, strategies to overcome these problems and examples are discussed.
