Abstract

Teresina in Brazil, was first city planned to host the Capital of the State of Piauí since 1852, had its initial plan from the mother church of Nossa Senhora do Amparo: its ground zero. This plan included spaces for the installation of institutions and equipment for public and private uses, among them the blocks destined to the squares, places that represented the green spaces of the early days of the city. Considering that the climate of Teresina has high average annual temperatures throughout the year, it was considered important to identify the indexes of urban green in the last decades, as a way to subsidize the socio-environmental planning of Teresina aimed at expanding the quality of life of the population. As main results, the analysis of works published, the green spaces indexes were identified in the 1989s - 2017s; and the recente spatialization of the most expressive areas of this green spaces, through the mapping of urban parks in each administrative region of the city. This shows that currently there is a concentration of green parks in the Central-North and East Regions of Teresina and that most of them are located on the banks of the Poti River, although the city was born on the banks of the Parnaíba River.
