Abstract

The main objective of this work was to measure the taxonomic diversity of shrub-tree species of fragments with cerrado phytophysiognomy present in Teresina Botanic Garden and to study the functional diversity of the most dominant species of the area, trying to correlate them. For the floristic survey and phytosociology, 10 plots of variable sizes were allocated according to the existence of typical cerrado phytophysiognomies, and all individuals with stem diameter ≥3 cm were sampled at 30 cm above the soil level. There were 2,107 individuals distributed in 32 families, 57 genera and 63 species, and 12 were not yet identified. Fabaceae and Myrtaceae were the most representative families in number of species and individuals. Parkia platycephala was the species with the highest value of importance (VI), similar to results of other studies in areas with the same vegetation type. For the study of functional diversity, functional richness, functional equitability, functional divergence and Rao entropy were calculated. In addition, functional traits were analyzed: leaf area (cm²), wood density (g / cm³) and maximum height (m). Functionally, the results reveal that the most diverse areas of taxonomy were also those that presented greater functional diversity, which allowed to know some of the characteristics that have influence in the processes of the community.
