The University of São Paulo has several research groups in the field of polysaccharides. Specifically, three groups are part of the INCT Polysaccharides, created at the end of 2022. The group of Macromolecular Materials and Lignocellulosic Fibers, coordinated by Prof. Elisabete Frollini, is dedicated to the synthesis and applications of cellulose derivatives and natural polymers, polymer matrix composites reinforced with lignocellulosic fibers, the use of raw materials from renewable sources in polymer preparation, and electrospinning. The Macromolecules at Interfaces group, coordinated by Prof. Denise F. S. Petri, investigates physicochemical aspects of colloids and surfaces in systems containing polysaccharides, hydrogels, and porous materials. The Nanobiotechnology and Bioproducts Laboratory, led by Prof. Valdeir Arantes, develops innovative technologies for the efficient conversion of renewable raw materials into bioproducts and industrial-relevant bionanomaterials. In this report, the main contributions of these groups will be highlighted.
