About the Journal
Submissions
Submissions should be made through the system: http://www.ojs.ufpi.br/index.php/nupcis with your login and password. To submit the text, all authors must be registered with the Journal of Infection Prevention and Health, and all information must be correctly filled out in the submission metadata.
We welcome manuscripts addressing research, epidemiology, and clinical aspects of infectious diseases, intending to be a reliable source for both academics and healthcare professionals worldwide.
We publish manuscripts in the following categories: original articles, reviews, and clinical case reports, which meet the publication standards of REPIS, emphasizing the importance of clear and accessible language to ensure the applicability of knowledge in clinical practice.
Alignment with International Ethical Principles
REPIS follows the Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals by ICMJE and the ethical guidelines of COPE. For research involving humans, approval from an Ethics Committee and protocol submission is required.
Studies conducted outside Brazil must adhere to the ethical principles of the Helsinki Declaration.
Research involving animals requires ethical approval and compliance with the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals and COBEA guidelines.
REPIS uses the Turnitin platform to detect plagiarism, self-plagiarism, and high similarity.

Editorial Policy
Peer Review
Pre-evaluation:
Immediately after submission, the managing/editor-in-chief conducts a technical check to assess the overall suitability of the manuscript for the journal's scope, adherence to ethical and quality standards, and necessary rigor to proceed to detailed evaluation.
Review:
After initial checks, the manuscript is sent to at least two independent experts for review, following the double-blind review model. Reviewer comments are confidential unless there is explicit agreement for disclosure.
REPIS adopts two evaluation systems:
1. Articles published in Pre-print repositories: an open review is adopted, where reviewers know the authors' names.
2. Traditional Articles: Double-blind review, ensuring anonymity between authors and reviewers, following the journal's standards for ethical integrity.
Thus, manuscripts that have been made available in pre-print repositories will be analyzed through the "open-peer review" system. In this system, reviewers will have access to the authors' names, providing greater transparency to the process.
It is necessary to inform in the Cover Letter, as well as in "editor comments" that it is a manuscript hosted in a pre-print repository, as well as the DOI of the pre-print submission.
Manuscripts from members of the journal's editorial board will necessarily only be analyzed through this mechanism to ensure ethical integrity.
Possible Editorial Decisions
- Immediate rejection (before peer review): When the text lacks sufficient scientific originality to be sent to reviewers or when it does not fit within the journal's scope.
- Minor revisions: The manuscript needs few changes, taking little time (between 5 and 10 days) and involving less than half of the manuscript's sections.
- Major revisions: The manuscript needs many changes, taking a long time (between 11 and 20 days) and involving 75% of the manuscript's sections. In this case, significant changes in the method and results are not necessary, i.e., it is not necessary to completely redo tables or redo experiments and statistical tests.
- Reject and resubmit: The manuscript needs many changes, especially significant changes in the method and results, i.e., it is necessary to completely redo tables or redo experiments and statistical tests. These changes would take more than a month, but the manuscript is interesting for REPIS.
- Reject: After peer review, the reviewers pointed out a lack of originality or significant misunderstandings that will not be overcome by revisions.
Appeals against a Decision
Authors can appeal editorial decisions by sending an email to the REPIS Editorial Office, provided that the manuscript has undergone at least one round of peer review. The appeal must contain a detailed justification, including responses to reviewer or Editor comments. The Editor-in-Chief forwards the manuscript to an Associate Editor and a member of the Editorial Board for analysis. The decision of rejection after this process is final.

REPIS adopts COPE's ethical guidelines and follows the flowchart provided by the committee to assess cases of misconduct. Depending on the decision of the Editorial Board, measures may include embargo, publication suspension, or retraction of the manuscript. Authors are informed of each step and the final decision.
Conflict of Interest Policy:
All authors, reviewers, and editors must declare potential conflicts of interest, including financial, academic, or personal conflicts. Conflicts do not prevent publication but must be disclosed during manuscript submission.
