Abstract

Geodiversity emerged in the early 1990s, reverberating in scientific conferences and gaining ground in the academic sphere. Despite being a still young term, geodiversity has been consolidated over time and has gained several concepts that, in short, flow to the diversity of abiotic elements that constitute a certain area. Furthermore, the theme integrated other terms, such as geoconservation, geosite and geoheritage, which, together with geodiversity, have been increasingly used in the studies of Geography and, mainly, of Geosciences. The concern with thoroughly understanding the territory, its physical elements, adding values, using them and proposing conservation measures has contributed to the spread of geodiversity beyond its cradle of origin. This article aims to give rise to the conceptualization of terms that encompass geodiversity and relate them according to the literature review. The methodology adopted for the elaboration of the work consisted of a literature review relevant to the topic through published scientific works. It is understood that the Earth is the great support for thousands of organisms to live and, due to this, there needs to be greater attention and promotion of Geodiversity so that geoconservation can happen.
