An introduction to environmental virtue ethics

Faced with the urgent challenge of rethinking the relationship between human beings and nature, given the crisis of the Anthropocene and its economic, social, political, ethical, and ecological consequences, a new specific field of research in ethics opens up: environmental virtue ethics. But what are the constitutive theoretical elements of an environmental virtue ethics? Why is this field of research necessary, that is, what is its specificity within the general framework of virtue ethics and environmental ethics, what are its conceptual foundations, and how can such an approach shed additional light on some environmental problems? The objective of this text is, therefore, to reflect on these questions and present some essential characteristics of what an environmental virtue ethics would be.
