Abstract

The argument of this article unfolds in three steps. First, I try to show that the idea of «beginning» or «start» in Arendt is inseparably linked to her understanding of «freedom». Second, I analyze the complex and problematic relationship between «freedom» and «evil» in Arendt's thought, which is
the central point of this text. Finally, I argue that Arendt's ideas about freedom and evil can help us understand the new forms that the «banality of evil» has taken in the present time.
