Abstract

The paper addresses the link between the banality of evil and the concept of "thoughtlessness", which has not received due attention in Latin and Hispanic-American studies on the subject because it has been translated in various ways throughout Arendt's work. My thesis is that the absence of thought is not a trait exclusive to Eichmann, nor is it restricted to the context of totalitarian regimes, but constitutes a diagnosis of the risks of the contemporary world.
Furthermore, the reconstruction of this concept allows us to reconsider Arendt's conception of oblivion and the role of ideology in the light of today's challenges.
